figure 1, Feature Characteristics

For all multi-point features, the default number of data points can be set. This setting applying to the calling of a feature during the measurement process. For example, launch the measure circle function and after answering the characteristics of the circle (if required) Geomet will are prompt with the default number of hits required. That default number is retrieved from the [System Options→Feature Characteristics] page.

It is recommended that on a multi point feature, the minimum number of hits should be set 1 greater than the minimum allowed to solve for that feature. This allows for form fit testing to ensure the data points form a sound feature. The table below lists the minimum and recommended number of data points required in Geomet for a feature.

Feature Type Minimum Recommended
Line 2 2
Circle 3 4
Plane 3 4
Cylinder 6 6
Cone 6 7
Sphere 4 5
Table 1, Recommended Settings

NOTE: On the Cylinder and Cone we require 1 data point over the minimum required, and therefore we set the minimum to 6.
